Public health insurance requires the patient to be examined by an andrologist – Important changes to the “Richtlinien über künstliche Befruchtung” (guidelines for IVF/ICSI)

The changes to the guidelines for IVF/ICSI, effective since 02.07.2017, by the federal committee for doctors and health insurance, now require male partners to be examined by an andrologist in order for the costs of an ICSI treatment to be covered. This additional examination is supposed to rule out further conditions of the male partner that may affect his fertility. If the andrologist’s confirmation is present, further steps for the public health insurances to cover the costs can be taken. If ICSI treatment is already considered due to preliminary results, an andrologist can be consulted prior to visiting us.
